What's IBM CSC

The IBM Corporate Service Corps program was launched in 2008 to help provide IBMers with high quality leadership development while delivering high quality problem solving for communities and organizations in emerging markets. Teams typically consist of groups of 10-15 IBMers from countries around the world, who come from different business backgrounds with different skills. The teams are sent to emerging markets for four week community-based assignments. Team members are engaged for a total of six months - three months preparing for the trip, one month on location, and two months after the trip back at IBM sharing their experiences. Approximately 500 IBMers are given the opportunity to participate in the program each year, and since the program's inception more than 2400 participants comprising 200+ teams have been sent to 30+ countries around the world.

4th and 5th of February… Starting the project

Kids Smart Corner Project
During morning we have gone to a Public Library to which IBM has donated 3 units of Smarter Kids learning stations. We attended several performances the children from the several schools in the surroundings offered us: traditional music, dances and story telling.

After that we played the Smarter Kids software with the kids… and we didn’t want to stop!  The kids kept greeting us all the way long until we went out of their street.

Director of the Public Library
We could experience the commitment from the different people in charge, the Library Director and other high instances, including government to invest in the education of the children as a mean to build a competitive Indonesia through raising educational level.

In the afternoon we joined SAPDA facilities and met an enthusiastic team that during 4th and 5th of February hosted us with an excellent tea, and answering patiently all our questions collaborated with us to identify knowledge gaps and obstacles to achieve their goals.

SAPDA is a not for profit organization that advocates for social, education and employment inclusion for women, persons with disabilities and children in Yogyakarta through advocacy training, promoting and participating in research and development of public policies that guarantee the fulfillment of the basic rights of women, people with disabilities and children.

During the next weeks both SAPDA and IBM teams will build a strategic plan for 5 years, focused on building the capacity of the professionals and removing the main obstacles they are facing in the operations.

In the evening … party! We all shared gifts and typical goods from our countries and had a relaxing time at The Patio terrace of the hotel.
